Chrysalides Start!

Our caterpillars start turning into chrysalides!

Everett is really attached to his Sierra. Sierra is such a little mommy to him and treats him so well. If I am ever desperate to do something without Everett around (like put raw chicken in a pan!) and he’s hanging on my leg crying I call for her to take him for five minutes and she will either hold him or go play with toys with him. Such a help and she does it so cheerfully!

Man, I had some late nights that week. Everett suddenly decided that having a bedtime before 1am wasn’t acceptable. Just hanging out with Ember on my bed while she played the iPod.

That night I finally got Everett to sleep while nursing him using the boppy. I laid him down on my bed and shoved a pillow under his legs to prop him up. I knew that if I left him there for a minute before moving the boppy away he’d stay asleep. So I took this picture and then sat there for a minute and sure enough, I safely moved away the boppy and he slept for a good 4 hours! Whew.

Eric and Jeena Come to Visit!

Jeena’s due October 30th with her first baby. She and Eric decided to take a babymoon to our area and stay in a resort. One of the days they were here they stayed with us. Lucky us!

I cleaned the house up before they came. I am not usually so picky about the house being super clean but for the first visit by someone, I want it really clean! I swept and mopped all the floors and when lunch time rolled around I fed everyone outside! No crumbs on this floor, people. lol!

Everett is really shy. Really, really shy. When people are around who aren’t a part of his immediate family he just quietly sits in my or Allan’s arms. He was so shy this day that he just leaned on Allan’s shoulder and fell asleep while we were talking to Eric and Jeena!

We all went to get ice cream at Shenanigan’s. We were slightly bummed that they didn’t have strawberry cheesecake or brownie ice cream flavors this time but they did have huckleberry, birthday cake, and pumpkin pie so that was good! Ember stuck with what she typically sticks with- chocolate!

We walked over to the marina. Stopping to see Mudgie and Millie at the insistence of the kids.

How beautiful was the lake that evening?!

Heading over to the marina!

Jeena and Eric were taking that dinner cruise the next night so we got a picture of them on the chair. Clearly Payson and Ember decided they needed a niece and nephew to join in 😛

I took a few pictures of Eric and Jeena with Jeena’s camera so I don’t have many of them but I have this that Jeena took of Allan and me!

We went the right way around the marina this time and crossed a bridge. It was nice to look out over the lake. It was busy that day so a lot of people had to squeeze by (it’s a narrow bridge!) but it was still fun!

The next day we got to prepare some of the delicious, and huge, veggies Jeena brought from their garden!! We made some typical foods and we also made zucchini bread for the first time! It was delicious!!

Jeena works at a dentist office and brought the kids each a new toothbrush. I don’t even know if she knew how much my kids like toothbrushes but they were about as thrilled as if she’d brought them a puppy! haha! Everett carried his around for days! In fact, this last weekend when we were leaving on the road trip he was really upset when I took the toothbrush from him to leave home! I could’ve brought it but, I didn’t want it to get lost on the trip!
Oh and yes, sometimes he brushes his hair with it!

Thanks for coming to visit us Eric and Jeena!

On August 12th

Life is absolutely insane these days. And sadly I record virtually none of it.

We need some better handwriting training this coming year. The kids used the handwriting that came with their language arts curriculums last year and it was so awful. Back to handwriting without tears for Payson! Ember’s using it this year, too!

Ember was playing with her Legos she got for her birthday.

Her birthday is in a month but I gave them to her early. The other kids all have legos and don’t share with her and she’s sad about it so I let her have them early. She’s SO easy to please on her birthday she won’t mind opening one less present.

I noticed Payson wasn’t grasping the whole “magic c” thing in his handwriting book so I brought out the chalkboard to show him (and Ember joined) on a larger scale. I demonstrated and we practiced all the letters that magic c makes.

It really helped! By the end of our little lesson both the kids were writing all the magic c letters really well!

We noticed a couple of our caterpillars hanging from the top of their cup. They were just starting to change into chrysalides!

Then we went to the store because we go to the store a lot because my kids eat so much!!

Everett fell asleep in the car and stayed asleep when I moved him to his stroller. It was a more peaceful shopping trip thanks to that.

These three got new bedding because it’s been a long time since anyone got new bedding and we were in desperate need of some!

This little boy loves bananas!

I set up a shelf and put it by the TV. We have two shelves like this for homeschool supplies and they’re full! I guess I have a lot of school stuff!

After everyone (including Allan) went to bed I was still up with a cranky Everett. He didn’t want to lay in bed with me. He wanted to be up (I believe it was 1am) and I was exhausted so I tried to “wear” him to sleep.

It didn’t work but he was happier in there while I got some extra chores done.

My Heart

When the road is rough. When the world seems dark. When this my heart feels empty.

In comes my hero, my safety net, my best friend. In comes my center, my lover, my other half.

He loves me, he comforts me, he reassures me.

I’d be lost without him.

He makes me happy, he improves my spirit, he is my home.
He has my heart.

Messy At Lunch and More Ergo

Is my blog predictable or what? Messy lunches and me wearing Everett in the ergo. That sums up my life. haha!

I went in another room to do something for a minute and when I came back out Everett was sitting with Brooke. It was a cute moment so I took a picture.

And then was super happy to hear the camera’s timer (beeping) going!

And then I wore him in the ergo while editing a family video and he fell asleep.

Brooke’s Room is Done!

Brooke has a tiny room and a lot of stuff so it looks cluttered fast. With the shelves  it looks much better!

She just got this purple wall art today from the girls she’s in Young Womens with. They made it for her to welcome her and she loves it. The quote is by Gordon B. Hinckley and says, “Be believing, be happy, don’t get discouraged, things will work out.”

This is an area she set up by herself. She and Sierra play school here with their stuffed animals.

And here Brooke is with her Personal Progress book. She got a few different little booklets and a journal and her Young Women’s necklace today when the YW’s second counselor came over. She is really, really happy to be in a beehive in Young Womens.

Insect Lore Butterfly Garden – Our Caterpillars Arrive!

I’ve been wanting to do this butterfly garden for years. I don’t know why I never got around to ordering it before. Just preoccupied with other things, I guess.
Anyway I ordered a new curriculum for the kids to use this coming school year (will blog about that later) and one of the recommended purchases to go along with it was this butterfly kit. And also owl pellets but I didn’t get those because I was severely gagging just looking at the pictures online. I might order them and let Allan do those with the kids. I can’t handle it, though. *GAG*

So Monday our caterpillars arrived! At first I thought all 6 were dead because they didn’t move a bit. Not a single twitch on a single caterpillar hair.

About five minutes after opening the box and putting the cup on the counter one moved! It was a tiny twitch at first, and then it moved its head more, and then it started crawling! I wasn’t excited yet because I was thinking, if only one is alive I have to return this thing and that’s a pain!

Five minutes later, another one twitched! And on and on, every 3-10 minutes a different one would seem to just come alive. The last two on the bottom of the cup took FOREVER to move. I was certain they were dead. I think it was a good 35 minutes or more after I set the cup on the counter that the last one moved! But in the end they were all alive so, yay!

Ember was the most interested but Everett found joy in our new “pets” as well!

Payson liked watching them for a while. He had a green day (green days mean he can play video games and red days mean he can’t, we just do that to make sure he doesn’t play too often and rot his brain out, ha) so he was far more interested in playing Zelda than the caterpillars. But for a good 20 minutes they stole his attention.

The kids were fascinated with the webs the caterpillars make. They first learned about caterpillars making webs this summer during our evening walks. One day they noticed huge webs in the trees that line our sidewalk. We were all appalled at first and also, terrified. Thinking they were spider webs we “eeeeewed” and stared. Allan informed us that those weren’t spider webs but caterpillar webs! We stared again even more amazed. We couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe I could go my entire life without knowing this fact and the kids couldn’t believe these horrifying looking webs were from caterpillars!

Seeing the web in our caterpillar cup confirmed this new information we’d learned and made it more interesting seeing it up close! We talked about why they make webs (it says to protect themselves and move around more easily on the information that came with the kit) and how cool that was.

I left the caterpillars on the table for about an hour and Ember sat there the entire time watching them and talking to me about them. She named a couple and she talked to them and would occasionally exclaim to me, “I calmed them down! They actually like my voice! They really like me. Lovey loves me!”
She named her caterpillar Lovey and I let her name “my” caterpillar (the kids “divided” them up among the family members) and she chose Eatey because he was the second biggest so she said he liked to eat. And yes I was informed that hers was a girl and mine is a boy. haha! She’s so fun!

Oh yeah so I moved them back to the counter because Everett really wanted to play with his new friends and that would’ve been bad. haha
He immediately pushed a chair up to the counter. He’s too smart for his own good!

Hours later, our house was still in caterpillar-obsessed mode. Ember and Payson (though he wasn’t pictured here) watched a lot of youtube videos about the butterfly life cycle and some from the Insect Lore’s youtube page! They were even interested in the commercials for Insect Lore. Fun times!

Church!

Everett does pretty well at church for the most part but sometimes he loudly hollers at my boobs, “NA NA!!” in the middle of Sunday school. And he doesn’t stop yelling na na at my boobs until I give in and take him to the mother’s lounge to breastfeed. He nurses for a minute and then hops off my lap, excited to explore this brand new room!

This was taken when we got home from church. Can you believe how mature Brooke looks?!

Buying Shelves!

Two different Wal-Mart trips so far. 7 shelves. 21 boxes to go on the shelves.

I would’ve bought more shelves (I want one shelf for each room in the house) but my Wal-Mart only had 7 in stock! haha

When I find something that works and is affordable I stock up! I’ve learned my lesson over the years that trying to get variety doesn’t work for me.

This is the second trip I took to get more shelves. I took only the youngest two for this trip and they both fell asleep on the drive there! I don’t need to tell you that I unbuckled Ember and then thought to take a picture before waking her up. You’d not stupidly assume I drove to Wal-Mart with her unbuckled, right? That’s only something that some dumb people would assume when my blog was public, right? Yet, I still feel the need to point it out 😛
