Valentine’s Evening

We got home from Target and hung up all the Valentine’s cards the kids had made. We put the roses Allan got me on the table and we had a nice dinner together. photo 070eresized_zpsdiko6luh.jpg photo 072eresized_zpstpkj3qdj.jpg photo 077eresized_zpsoctgagr1.jpg

There was a beautiful sunset out that evening and the weather wasn’t too cold. It was a perfect environment for a cozy Valentine’s 🙂 photo 079eresized_zpsg6rfmqhs.jpg

Normally I make my kids wait to wear their new clothes until after I wash them but Sierra was so dang excited about those overalls from Target I went ahead and let her wear them. She’s wanted to wear that outfit every single day since she got those overalls!
 photo 086eresized_zpsrqmra45a.jpg photo 087eresized_zpslh6qlmqi.jpg photo 089eresized_zpslrgcp1cg.jpg

I was either making dinner or washing dishes when I looked over and saw Everett like this. I didn’t think I’d get my camera in time to capture it (figuring he’d be well on his way to his next place to play) but he was still standing there when I came back! So cute. photo 093eresized_zpsw1f3dd20.jpg

For dessert that night I made these zucchini brownies. I wouldn’t make them again. They tasted fine the first day but not so much the second. Maybe if you refrigerate them they’d taste better? With frosting. I don’t know. Regular brownies for us from now on! photo 101eresized_zps5mczvtls.jpg photo 106eresized_zpsn4obfhdd.jpg

We Went to Target to get a Nipple Shield!

With the hole in my nipple not healing after 6 days I decided to try out a nipple shield. Because the hole would start to heal and look pretty good and then Everett would nurse (gently even) once and the hole would pop right back open!
At Target we bought some other stuff (food, diapers, etc) and right before going to check out we were walking past the girls’ clothes and decided to grab a couple pairs of jeans for Brooke and Sierra. I don’t usually have them try on clothes but I did this day because they were trying on overalls and I had no idea if the overalls would be true to size.

While they tried on clothes Allan, Payson, Ember, and I waited. Payson and Ember had a good time while waiting. photo 012eresized_zpsy2tofgoj.jpg photo 014eresized_zpse5dp1uu2.jpg

Payson and Ember were fighting and screaming at each other and crying about whose turn it was to hide behind the mirror there. Payson was being rude and not letting Ember come behind the mirror. Allan pulled Payson aside and had him cuddle with him on a bench to distract him. photo 036eresized_zps37bk5dl4.jpg

Everett started crying then. Luckily Payson and Everett adore each other so both boys got to sit with Allan for a while. photo 037eresized_zpsgrkcvudu.jpg

Back in their clothes, ready to go! photo 039bwresized_zpscutno0jo.jpg photo 041eresized_zpsvr0yxmxm.jpg photo 043eresized_zpsfnygtqox.jpg

All my kids like playing on the giant Target ball but most especially Payson! photo 045eresized_zps8zvyag2r.jpg photo 047eresized_zpspbwvabx2.jpg

We were about to walk the rest of the way to the car but Ember started crying about wanting a turn on the big red ball. photo 060eresized_zpsdh6krapj.jpg photo 064eresized_zpsky1kambh.jpg

We Were So Hungry and Completely Out of Food!

I grudgingly went to Sprouts. I love Sprouts. I love their food, I love the atmosphere, I like the prices.
I don’t like the 20 minute drive.

But once a month or so I go there and we stock up on our favorite “healthy treats.” photo 005eresized_zpszmmsxsxw.jpg

This particular trip was to get iodine. Jenna told me it helps with breast infections so I tried it out. I think it helped (my developing mastitis went away) but I also think maybe it jacked up my body, too! I had some weird symptoms the day after I overdosed on iodine. (I took a half dropper full three times a day for two days in a row)
I think next time I’ll just go ahead and get antibiotics. Though I hate those, too! Being sick and treating sickness is my least favorite thing.

I breastfed Everett in the car before driving home. He was cranky that day! photo 010bwresized_zpsiccbqeob.jpg

A Typical Day with My Kiddos

Ember was being too adorable doing pages in her workbook. photo 080eresized_zpstle20rzv.jpg photo 084eresized_zpsf9lij33w.jpg photo 088eresized_zpsiugnr6gc.jpg

Roman numeral rules for reference on the white board that day. photo 093eresized_zpsm2stlqmm.jpg

Part of Sierra’s math curriculum is roman numerals. I’ve taught her about them and then we’ve watched a couple YouTube videos (nothing that great, honestly) and then I found a fun site with games and she plays this roman numerals game there. We do that sometimes in addition to her workbook work. She’s SO adorable with roman numerals and it’s kind of been her “thing” since Brooke’s curriculum doesn’t have roman numerals and it’s not something they teach in school anymore. She feels special having this one part of math that is a brand new concept in the Hausen home and she’s the only one to know it. Side note, Brooke has asked to learn it so now we’re going to teach it to her as well. Today if I get a chance I’ll let her play the roman numeral game Sierra plays sometimes. And lastly, all four of my older kids like to play games on that site. photo 095eresized_zpsn0lysva0.jpg photo 102bwresized_zpsseisxhz7.jpg photo 111bwresized_zpsniikuzvt.jpg

Ember liked watching Sierra play. She’d get excited at how good Sierra was doing and tell her that frequently 🙂 photo 114eresized_zpsmbatfxa7.jpg photo 117eresized_zpsemar8ept.jpg

Meanwhile back in the dining room Payson was working in his phonics book while having a snack. photo 139eresized_zpssoonbxvi.jpg

And Ember started doing some activities in her book while having a snack, too! photo 152eresized_zpsz1wlgzqp.jpg

And then I took a quick shower and then Everett wanted to nurse. photo 166eresized_zpsig8pqzib.jpg photo 169eresized_zpsvloz7lyt.jpg

After some milk he was happy sitting with mommy. photo 177eresized_zpsqzv4qzey.jpg photo 179eresized_zpsvcafb2ay.jpg photo 189eresized_zpsim1q8npo.jpg

Everett loves putting things in and out of containers. Any size objects and any size containers…
We gave him this empty food processor and he loves dropping small toys and objects in through the top opening. photo 201eresized_zpsju5zqipp.jpg

When I was packing some boxes Everett was having the time of his life helping. He’d pull everything out of the box I’d just packed and then try to put it back in. I also kept finding little toys or random things in boxes… as he’d pass by an open box he’d toss things he’d found in there. It was SO fun finding things in all of the boxes. I mean, he was constantly undoing any work I’d done but the cuteness of it all was totally worth the extra work! photo 002eresized_zps0sbqoxyj.jpg photo 003eresized_zpsx81xdk2s.jpg photo 008eresized_zpsptd2jhcp.jpg photo 010eresized_zpsedv7bfrj.jpg

My house was a wreck that day as I’d done a ton of packing… I ordered pizza for dinner and we ate around a cluttered table. photo 037eresized_zpsxhmqbi0v.jpg

After dinner Ember played with this geoboard and was really proud of how it turned out. She came running for me and asked me to take a picture. photo 046eresized_zpsjjvffpuz.jpg

On a Sunday

I made these egg rolls for dinner. We did NOT like all the ginger! If I make them again I’ll cut back on the ginger. I also made this sweet and sour sauce and we did NOT like the Sriracha! I made another batch the next day to eat the leftover egg rolls with and left out the Sriracha and it was much better! photo 208eresized_zps8kopufll.jpg photo 210eresized_zps3ixzptnx.jpg(Those pictures were from Saturday night actually)

At breakfast Ember had her little princess dolls and Sierra had her princess pets and these three were all sharing and playing together. It was so fun to watch them with those toys ♥ photo 217eresized_zpsob0nsohb.jpg photo 217eresized_zpsob0nsohb.jpg

Ember was staying away from the kitchen because she hated the smell of the vinegar in the sweet and sour sauce I was making. Allan went up the stairs to cuddle with her and sympathize with her over the horrible smell from the kitchen. photo 002eresized_zpsy2j8punj.jpg

Eventually the smell went away (once the sauce is all together and cooking the odor of the vinegar dies down!) and Ember was willing to come in the kitchen again! photo 006eresized_zpsmjt6vrs2.jpg photo 009eresized_zpsvosvi2zx.jpg

Allan put new batteries in Payson’s remote control car.
 photo 010eresized_zpszm4ljcar.jpg photo 018eresized_zpsgirlqiho.jpg

Everett’s getting much braver with that car!! At Christmas and for a good month after he’d cry hysterically if he saw it in the same room with him… even if it was off! Then one day he crawled over to it while it was just sitting there, not in use. He timidly tapped it with a finger. Then he grabbed it. Let go. Then slowly touched it again. Then grabbed it. And ever since I can visibly see his determination to fight his fears with that car. He started being okay with it even when it was on and making SCARY noises (haha)… he’d do this forced laugh and look from family member to family member, searching for confident faces and support. Then he’d force a laugh again and then over time, and days and weeks of exposure, he started having real confidence, realizing the car wasn’t going to hurt him and now he can be in the same room as the car and a sibling can drive the car near him and he’s just fine. He doesn’t like when the car drives right next to him but he doesn’t cry or anything anymore! It’s been fun watching his transformation! photo 028eresized_zpssozvaf6u.jpg

The kids were drawing Plants vs. Zombies pictures. photo 032eresized_zps1wbyhvsj.jpg

Ember’s drawing: photo 039eresized_zpsunxzurqy.jpg

They also drew monster faces and cut them out and made paper strips to wrap around their heads to wear them as masks. photo 053eresized_zpswor0pvo5.jpg photo 055eresized_zpsyf3t8s1p.jpg

At one point in the evening Payson and Ember ran into each other while playing. (Those animal things are ice packs) photo 062eresized_zps127pneis.jpg

Most of the time Everett hears a sibling cry he starts crying as well. But with the ice packs on the kids he found their situation hilarious. photo 068bwresized_zps5zldoqzj.jpg photo 069eresized_zpskcm8mvgb.jpg

One Afternoon in the Hausen House

 photo 001eresized_zps8rlgqjgu.jpg
(Payson is obsessed with wanting to be called Link lately!)

 photo 022eresized_zpsrmb9mr4w.jpg

Everett likes to play with straws and chew on them but he can’t figure out how to get any liquid from the cup. He doesn’t like drinking much from any cup, sippy, or bottle. He does love to play with cups, sippies, and bottles though! photo 027eresized_zpsne0xklpd.jpg

We play a lot of hangman around here! photo 034eresized_zpsfyy8dadb.jpg photo 049eeresized_zpssi99ocyj.jpg

Ember wanted a turn. I took her into the other room so she could whisper to me what she wanted to write. The second we were out of earshot she excitedly whispered, “LOVE!” I thought that was the sweetest thing! When we went back to the board I drew everything out but she did the rest on her own! She’s so stinking cute! photo 055eresized_zpsvmjexlm5.jpg

Another Night Another Dinner

Everett makes cooking really difficult. He wants me to hold him and trying to cook while holding a baby sucks. I put him in the ergo sometimes and sometimes he’s okay with it. I put him in his high chair with food or crayons and sometimes he’s okay with it. All for about five minutes. So if I can cook a dinner for 7 in five minutes I’d be set. Dinner typically takes 30-60 minutes though.

Anyway, I don’t really want to complain because it’s hardly something to complain about, right? Except when I’m trying to get something done and I hear him screaming my entire body tenses up and I am starting to feel like I’m having anxiety attacks. I might have a nervous breakdown soon. photo 098eresized_zpsfgjlahum.jpg

At least he likes every dinner I make! Thank freaking goodness he isn’t one bit picky! He even eats off spoons and forks now, guys! photo 112eresized_zpsghrrurvn.jpg photo 122eresized_zpsvedaihqo.jpg

I made these Sweet Potato Burritos after pinning them to pinterest eight or nine months ago. I’d heard really good things about them but was nervous my family would hate them. They sound pretty weird! But, guess what! My family loved them!!
Normally I keep gluten free tortillas or flat bread on hand for days when our main meal uses gluten but our health food store is now 20 minutes away and I haven’t had a chance to drive out there and get that stuff. So I give Payson whatever gluten-free parts of the meal I have and I add rice crackers, rice, or potatoes on the side of his. Luckily he has never been even slightly picky and loves everything I offer him. Rice crackers (the kind in a huge bag at Costco) are just about his favorite thing and he likes practically anything I top them with!
Everett is taking after Payson in the stomach department and seems to have a huge intolerance for gluten. I don’t know if he has an allergy and I’m pretty sure there’s something else (or maybe several more things) that he’s intolerant to. I need to start the elimination diet with him but with our move so soon I don’t have the time to devote to keeping track just yet. For now I try to feed him the things I know he’s not reacted to before! photo 128eresized_zpsncyijt0l.jpg photo 131eresized_zpsnekvzaf5.jpg

After dinner the kids told us they had a talent show prepared for us. I filmed it. It was really cute. photo 141bwresized_zpshyf7kbpv.jpg

We ended up staying in the basement for like an hour playing around. photo 149bwresized_zpsddzd2hpv.jpg

Homeschool!

Everett happily showing his Applegate turkey to the other kids. photo 053bwresized_zps39frzcne.jpg photo 061eresized_zpsd40eyfi5.jpg

Allan called to talk to me, he’s been calling me a LOT this week (he got a job in Idaho and we’re moving soon and have a lot to figure out in the next 10 days before our move!) but I needed to go really quick to either change a diaper or maybe finish up something lunch related (I can’t remember) so I handed the phone to Sierra for a minute. photo 062eresized_zpsjq6qi7c9.jpg

After lunch my kids were still complaining about being hungry (like always) so they had one of their favorite things in the world- olives. The bowl full was gone in less than a minute! Payson’s also snacking on dried seaweed which is one of his favorite things. photo 068eresized_zpswjsvhdjn.jpg

Brooke is really struggling with some math concepts she learned in school this year. She really needed one on one time learning certain concepts and in a public school situation that’s not possible… I’ve tried helping her out as we go along in her workbook but it was obvious to me that she was missing a lot of crucial basic concepts. She couldn’t possibly go on in her work without having a firm foundation.
So I found this Math Tutoring DVD program online and after watching a couple of the sample lessons, bought it! And I’m so glad I did because it has been a game changer!! Brooke loves the lessons and is finally, finally getting those math concepts that she was struggling with! The entire 5th grade tutoring program was around $55, so it was a good deal! I love this purchase so much. 5 star review from me and Brooke! photo 071eresized_zpsb7g1k3ab.jpg photo 074eresized_zpsry3dv8bz.jpg

She does pretty well with fractions, she only struggled a bit, so she flew through five of the fraction lessons in one day! You don’t have to do five in one day, clearly, but she was excited to know so much of what he was teaching and then also finally understand clearly the concepts she had been struggling with! photo 078eresized_zpseed8ig39.jpg

I came back into the kitchen to work with the other kids and found Sierra holding Everett while working. So cute! photo 081eresized_zpsivjt70fu.jpg

They were both sticking out their tongues! photo 084eresized_zpscshb6o6p.jpg photo 088eresized_zpsz4ebc1xs.jpg
