Snowball Fight to Welcome 2014!!

This morning the kids noticed it was snowing outside. We hadn’t had breakfast yet (free breakfast at the hotel until 9:30) so we hurried downstairs to eat so we could make it outside while it was still snowing. The kids were super excited to make their first snowballs and snow angels. My daughters have been talking about and wanting to make snow angels for years!

I told the kids not to make too many snowballs and do too much with the snow since they weren’t wearing gloves but… they couldn’t resist.

All four of them found throwing snowballs at each other to be one of the most hysterical things to ever happen to them. photo 043eresized_zpsde12756e.jpg photo 048eresized_zps6b8af0a7.jpg photo 061eresized_zps17310cff.jpg photo 069eresized_zpseca070a8.jpg

Everett was way too tired to care about where he was. He’s been staying up all night partying so he’s a pretty tired little guy. And by partying I mean crying and pooping and breastfeeding and then doing all that over and over again. It’s been a total blast, let me tell you!

There’s a fire pit out there in the courtyard that I loved! It really was super warm over there. I tried to convince the kids to hang out a bit more but they were way too into the snow to care about a fire! photo 093eresized_zpsfe49360b.jpg photo 096eresized_zpsf99ef0e3.jpg

They got me a bunch of times, too. I told them they could throw as many snowballs at me as they wanted as long as they didn’t hit Everett!

And then it was time. SNOW.ANGELS!!! photo 150eresized_zpse083138a.jpg photo 160eresized_zps0494e8e8.jpg photo 156eresized_zpse37666b0.jpg

After playing in the snow we went back to the hotel room and hung out for about five hours. We watched a couple rented movies and then everyone started getting crabby and I realized it was past lunchtime and I should probably get food into all these cranky people! (myself included!) I ventured out into the city to explore what businesses are even around here. I was surprised I didn’t get lost. Though looking for a specific store I kinda wish I had an iPhone or something. I majorly wanted to know where a King Sooper (grocery store here, I’d never heard of it before!) was so I could buy food! I did find one after a little while! I was super proud of myself that I found what I needed and didn’t get lost.
Before going grocery shopping we stopped at Sweet Tomatoes for lunch since I knew the kids wouldn’t make it through a shopping trip while hungry!

Sweet Tomatoes is a soup and salad buffet restaurant that I’d never heard of until I moved to Arizona. Allan’s mom took me there when I very first married Allan and I loved it! I am a major pig so buffets are right up my alley 😛
We talked about grandma while we ate since Brooklyn had gone with her to Sweet Tomatoes this summer. We felt sad because we missed her and wished she was there with us.
I told Ember to do a thumbs up if she liked this place. And so she gave it a thumbs up. (I will be so sad the day she learns how to do a real thumbs up!) photo 177eresized_zps64ffe23d.jpg

The kids were on cloud 9 when they realized that there were boatloads of dessert options. photo 181eresized_zps47f6a1dd.jpg photo 190eresized_zps7793921b.jpg photo 196eresized_zps417d589a.jpg photo 217eresized_zps7254763f.jpg

It was snowing when we left the restaurant and the kids were excited once again!! photo 228eresized_zpsa9185de5.jpg photo 234eresized_zpse8dafb08.jpg

I might take Payson to get a haircut tomorrow. That boy is looking mighty overgrown. photo 243eresized_zps6d305020.jpg photo 246eresized_zpsd8215ff1.jpg photo 249eresized_zps5c84fe7e.jpg photo 252eresized_zpsde91b578.jpg

I stopped at Kohl’s to look for coats and boots for me. I didn’t find anything I liked. Well, I did like one pair of boots but they only had two sizes left in stock and neither were my size. Darn it. I am the only one in the family without warm clothes and while I don’t really mind that much it would be nice to have a coat when it’s snowing. ha
Anyway, we got back to the car and it had been snowing while we were inside and the kids (especially Ember) were cracking up at the snow on our car. Having kids who’ve never experienced snow is amusing. The things I would never think twice about are super surprising and funny to them. photo 263eresized_zps909a352f.jpg

We finally made it to King Sooper’s. The kids said it reminded them of Basha’s and Fry’s in Arizona. photo 286eresized_zps8d1bb33a.jpg

I was surprised when Everett wasn’t crying in his carseat and was awake. That never happens! I thought maybe he was just enjoying all the new sights and sounds of a store. Or at least was stunned into silence by it all. lol photo 290eresized_zps87154b98.jpg

But about twenty seconds into the trip he was screaming. He isn’t the most happy baby. I put him in the ergo but he wasn’t really happy in there, either. But he cried less in there than he would’ve in the carseat. photo 296eresized_zpsa1a87a43.jpg

My kids love to play on the floor. I tell them not to but they like to ignore me. photo 303ecropresized_zps5f995be1.jpg

Luckily we were done at this point because so was Everett. photo 306eresized_zpsde7b9eb7.jpg

  • That must be so much fun watching them learn about the snow! I think you are a superhero for taking care of 5 kids (including a newborn!) in a hotel room by yourself for a week in a totally new town. Eeek…makes my heart race just thinking about it!

  • Ariana — I just was going to mention that you should check out for awesome coats. They have really durable and nice ones for the weather that you are moving into! And I just got an email that all outerwear is 50% off.

I agree with Brooke's comment that you are amazing for caring for 5 kiddos in a hotel by yourself in a new city. You are so impressive!!!!! Hope your family LOVES Colorado. The house looks fantastic.

    Happy 2014~
