Dressing Themselves

This year I’ve let my kids dress themselves more than 90% of the time. Ember has been my only child who demands that she picks out her own clothes and I just haven’t cared to not let her. If she wants to be mismatched then that’s perfectly ok with me. As long as she looks nice for church and she lets me dress her up once in a while… we’re good πŸ™‚ photo 049eresized_zps41137503.jpg

Most mornings I tell the younger two to go get dressed before we leave to take the older girls to school. I end up giggling pretty much every morning when they come back in the room to see me before we head to the car. They come up with the funniest outfits! I decided to take the time to go and grab my camera and document them more often. I’m even starting a new tag/category on my blog “Dressing Themselves” so I can easily click straight to the goofiness if I’m having a bad day πŸ˜‰ photo 040eresized_zps8cd61286.jpg
The coloring of these two pictures is totally different because I switched the white balance before taking the second one. It’s not important but it bugs the crap out of me. I’ll probably edit the first one to be warmer before printing these out for the kids’ scrapbooks.
PS: My favorite part of these pictures is that both kids have something to hold. When Ember saw Payson with that umbrella she ran to find something interesting to hold up, too. And she was so excited about it!
PPS: She even had on two pairs of undies under her pants/skirt combo. The girl loves layers! lol

  • Your kids are super sweet! I've been working on letting my kids dress themselves more but I think you are better than me πŸ™‚

Random question- What kind of car did you have before your new one? I'm in the market for a new car and I know you could fit your 4 kiddos in the old one and I liked the look of it. Sorry for the randomness here!

  • Thanks! I thought that's what it was but wasn't sure. Did you like it overall? I have two kids 7 & 5 still in 5 point carseats and hoping hoping hoping for an addition to the family this year.

  • Did I like it overall? I think yes, I liked it more than I didn't like it.

    I liked:
    -the gas mileage
-that it had a sliding door so my kids couldn't hit cars next to us
-the way it looked (which actually isn't important to me in the slightest but I know it is to a lot of people and I thought it was a really cute car!)

    I didn't like:
-how teeny tiny it was; no trunk space

If I went back and did it all again I'd still buy that car and use it for the two years we fit in it (before Ember was born)
If I had to go back to it *right now* after having an SUV, it'd be tough because there was pretty much zero room for groceries and we make HUGE grocery trips. I'd *always* have grocery bags stacked up to the roof in that car. My kids couldn't even climb out of the car without me unloading everything first!

  • Thanks so much for the review! I test drove one today and really liked it! We also have a Bravada so there is always plenty of room in the back of it for big grocery trips, though we don't really do big trips very often. I went from a minivan to a Camry and it was just way too small. Got the Bravada and I really like it but the gas mileage is horrible! I may end up with something bigger if I'm blessed enough to have another child but I think for now a Mazda5 will be perfect! (This is the other ember's mom, by the way πŸ™‚ )
