Yesterday morning we went to Denny’s for breakfast. Allan has been going to work before we get up (really early) and coming home long after the kids are in bed so it’s been a really lonely summer. Not to mention it’s really hot here so doing much outdoors is a major bummer…
So anyway, stopping by Denny’s was fun.
Ember decided to climb up there to be Spiderman, too. Luckily she climbed down when I told her to without a fuss.
So going out with kids is always an adventure. Sometimes it goes really poorly and sometimes it’s the best. My kids are actually pretty well behaved in restaurants (let’s not talk about grocery stores, though!) so we have a good time.
This trip had some moments, good and bad.
-Ember leaned forward towards her food and fell straight into the edge of the table. She cut her lip and it started bleeding and swelling. I held some ice for her to suck on and she loved that. It cut back on the swelling and within a couple minutes she was back to her happy self eating fruit and smiling at everyone.
-I was helping the kids, I was reaching for something (can’t remember what) and knocked over a large glass of orange juice. I ended up using one of Ember’s diapers to soak it all up.
-Ember kept kissing all of her siblings without prompting. She smiled at every single person she saw in the restaurant.
-Brooklyn was in heaven getting four strips of bacon. (Bacon was literally the first meat item she ever willingly ate! She was four years old then)
-They have free hot chocolate refills so my kids asked for a refill each time the waitress came back. They got three cups of hot chocolate each. Woah.
-When the waitress brought the hot chocolate refills (in new mugs) she set them right by my hot chocolate. My hot chocolate was room temperature by this time. I went to grab my hot chocolate and took a big drink and burnt my mouth pretty bad since I’d grabbed a new hot chocolate by mistake. It was so bad my whole face was scrunched up and I grabbed ice right away to try to fix the burn. The people at the next table pointed and laughed at me!
-The waitress came near the end and asked if we needed anything. Brooklyn says, “Yeah I’d like more apples!” And I smiled and said, “Oh we’re done, thank you.” Brooklyn does her most evil glare at me (probably wishing me death) and snarls, “Mom, I can’t believe you would embarrass me like that!”
-Each kid at one point or another told me I was the best mom for taking them out to eat.
