Yesterday we went to Picketpost mountain for a hike. Payson whined the entire time. I felt exhausted because I’ve had some really rough nights with Ember this week, (is she sick again, teething again? I don’t know) Allan felt really tired and weak but ended up holding Payson almost the entire time. Ember was fussy in the carrier but the older girls were on their best behavior.
Temperatures here in Arizona have been summery for the last couple months. Most of April has been in the high 80s and 90s. This weekend there was a cold front and it was in the 50s during our hike. Which our children considered freezing.
Payson was cold and upset that he didn’t have a hood on his sweater so we let him use Ember’s knit hat. I don’t like when he wears it because I don’t want him to stretch it out with his giant head, but it did stop the complaints.
This is how Allan held Payson for the hike! I’ve held Payson during hikes a few times and it really sucks. He’s so heavy! Allan is wearing my sweater in this picture. He was really cold and hadn’t brought one. I wasn’t really cold so…
Ember started crying just after this and I ended up holding her in my arms during the hike back. And she was still fussy so I carried her like a baby and nursed her while hiking back. To be honest, I’m kinda sick of hiking with kids. haha. At least desert hiking. Maybe when it’s Utah and we’re hiking through trees with grass and dirt and no prickers or rattle snakes to worry about it’ll be different!
