This weekend we drove over to the base of four peaks. It was a long drive on a super bumpy dirt road. It wasn’t a perfect excursion as far as ease, weather and whatnot but it was a perfect excursion for the soul 🙂
We’ve had like high 80s to high 90 degree forever and the day we drive up into the mountains was the ONE cold front we’ve had this year! It was 50 degrees and the wind chill was intense! The wind was blowing so hard and me and Allan in shorts and short sleeves were practically shivering! Luckily we were smart enough to bring sweaters for the kids just in case. At the time of packing them it seemed silly because the week before it’d been in the 90s! Even the day before! But we brought them anyway and thank goodness!
So anyway we got there and had some snacks. And Allan was silly.
But while walking on a totally flat part of the area she all of the sudden fell face forward onto the ground! I saw it happen and was surprised because she was walking (not running) and just stumbled and fell flat on her face 🙁
She got totally scraped up and had dirt in her mouth and nose. I scooped her up and started cleaning out her mouth and comforting her. We went into the car because it was warmer in there and after cleaning out her mouth she wanted to breastfeed. Then Allan came over and snapped a couple of pictures of her scratched up face. I was so heartbroken for her but she handled it so well! She barely cried, my strong girl ♥
After all of that Ember went in the ergo carrier and we headed out for a little hike. We’ve all been sick (hahahaha, for like four months!) so we took it easy and didn’t go too far. Just far enough to have fun but not to wear anyone out 🙂
Allan took the camera a few times to take some pictures. I super duper love it when he does! I take self timer pictures with the kids sometimes but there is nothing as awesome as unposed or thought out photos of me with my kids!
Before leaving I fed Ember again. She’s been in a realy picky phase. She wants to nurse all day long and refuses to eat much. She would eat meat all day long until she barfed but everything else… notsomuch.
I think it was close to 6:30 by the time we got down off the mountain side. We we near Roosevelt lake and when Payson excitedly pointed it out I asked Allan if we could go throw some rocks in the lake for a little while.
Payson was SO excited. That boy has been bored out of his mind trapped in the house all day with only mommy so to hang out on the mountain and in the trees and then get to go to the lake too!? He was in heaven, totally blissed out.
I was holding the camera out just to get another picture of Ember and right when I went to snap the pictures we both caught sight of a HUGE cloud of little gnat like bugs flying in front of us. And this was a genuine capture of our reactions!
ALL four of our kids were SO well behaved on this trip!! It was PERFECT. I was so happy. Allan and I are making plans to go camping and hiking and stuff as much as humanly possible during the rest of the time we live here!
Since Allan had taken some pictures of me on the mountain without me even asking him to I felt stupid to ask him to snap more, but I am SO glad I did because even though I feel like a whale (I need to lose like thirty flipping pounds) I actually LOVE these. And no matter what I weigh I should like to document my own life! Right? haha
