Christmas Eve

The first part of the day was spent making and then delivering Christmas goodie packages to all of our friends.

The afternoon was spent on our yearly traditional Christmas eve hike! Allan insisted on wearing both little kids because he wanted me to take pictures and I was really, really excited about that!!

So we were walking around this area when Sierra started screaming and crying louder than I ever heard her before. She screamed, “I sat on a cactus! I’m sitting on a cactus!! OWWW! I’m sitting on a cactus!!”
Sure enough… she had sat on a cactus! I pulled her up and there was a cholla burr sticking out of her butt. I went to grab it and Allan yelled at me to wait but I ignored him thinking, I’ve got to get this out of her butt!! So I tried to carefully grab it but it totally stuck into my fingers. I had got it out of her butt but it was now dangling from my fingers and it hurt like a sonofagun. I was going to try to pull it out of my hand with my other hand but decided against that. I pulled my hand (with the cactus) up high and then flicked my hand really hard and the cactus went flying off. Then Sierra told me her butt still hurt and she started screaming about a cactus still being in her bum. I pulled her pants down and there was one more pricker right in her tiny butt cheek. I pulled it out and helped her pee (she’d had to go for a while) and then got her all dressed and good and hugged her. It was so crazy!

We have this preschool CD about desert stuff from Payson’s preschool curriculum. One of the songs is, “Don’t Sit on a Cactus.” ! Can you believe that! haha! So we played it on the drive home and now we call it Sierra’s song! So funny.

Here she is right next to the rock she sat on with the cactus.

And there in the middle of the picture is the cactus!

I didn’t take pictures of us making sugar cookies and setting them under the tree with milk and carrots (for the reindeer) or of us sprinkling reindeer food in the driveway. But I did take a couple when we played a “Don’t Eat…!!” game. The link is in my pinterest account if you’re desperately wondering what it is but I’m way too lazy to find it and post it here!! haha, sorry. If this was before Christmas maybe I would!

After the kids went to bed we brought all of the presents out and put them under the tree, of course.

One thought on “Christmas Eve

  • I really love the hiking Christmas Eve tradition…very fun way to spend time together as a family. :c) Pretty impressive to see Allan carrying two kids!! I did that a few days ago… I had Colton in the Moby on my chest and Hudson got tired on our walk (and he probably WAS tired because we walked almost 3 miles) so I bent over and let him hop on my back. Needless to say, we didn't make it very far…
