Brooklyn when she changed into her white jumpsuit.

We got two whole minutes to talk and smile at each other and I was able to talk to her a bit to calm her down. She had a bad case of nerves 😉

Before leaving to go back to the sacrament room for the service she peeked at the font. This moment for her was crucial because she’d never seen a baptismal font and standing there I could tell she was imagining how it would go and gaining confidence in the experience 🙂

I let her read the program. There was an insert with each child that was getting baptised that day and a paragraph about them. Allan and I spent time writing it last week and wanted to make sure it was special since she’ll have that forever. She LOVED what we wrote about her! I didn’t know it would mean much to her right now but it did! She gave me a hug and said, “Aww mom, you’re the sweetest!”

There were a TON of people in the hall which made her extremely embarrassed when I snapped these next two. Since she was embarrassed I just took two as fast as I could and let her leave that spot. I’m glad that they’re in focus at all!

She had this moment where she freaked out about taking that I’m a Child of God locket off. I told her we’d take it off before she was baptised but she wanted it off right that second! lol

It took Allan near 15 minutes to get his jumpsuit on! We were all waiting for him! I guess since there were 8 baptisms (7 other men baptising their kids!) and they were all very close in size to him there weren’t any jumpsuits left that fit him! So he tried on five or six or ten until he found one that worked alright! I would’ve felt so annoyed at having an ill fitting jumpsuit in front of all those people! They’re unflattering enough already! lol

SO when it was all said and done we went back to our house for a BBQ with the family that came. We chose hamburgers (I said NO to steaks with potatoes and all the fancy sides because I didn’t want more WORK!!) and had chips and salad. That’s IT! Easy peasy. I loved that!

It rained and was absolutely gorgeous outside while Allan BBQ’d. The family went out for a bit.

My brother-in-law, Marcor, ran through the rain with his kids. Emmalyn (who’s 3) wasn’t in this particular picture. That’s my nephew Marc in the picture who is 4 weeks younger than Ember 🙂

I really like my brother-in-law. Marcor is the type of guy who gets along with everybody and is really laid back all the time. I love that!

And my freaking adorable nephew, Marc. Oh my gosh I love that boy!! He and Ember are so cute together and they’re so similar and yet different, too! I love it.

I was asked to run back outside a while later and snap a picture of Marcor with his kids on the swing in the rain.

It was still hot outside, of course. It’s such a funny experience to be in 100 degree weather with pouring rain!

After dinner Brooklyn spent time with Emmalyn. She adores Emma 🙂

  • I absolutely positively know how you feel about ALL OF WHAT YOU SAID (regarding being the mom and doing the work and preserving the memories and never being able to just sit back and enjoy a special occasion).

Just this afternoon, I called Calvin at work to ask what he would be doing for dinner tonight. He was going to be at work til 5:00, then had a class from 6-9:00. He said, “I'll probably run to McDonald's and get something” to which I replied “If you're going to be leaving campus, why can't you just come home and eat with us?” He said “Well, I'm not going to have a lot of time….”
I guess I don't understand how it could be inconvenient at all for him to stop at home and eat a meal that I've prepared and then get up and leave me with the aftermath. Just like every other meal we ever eat. He did come home and he had a good 10 minutes to spare before he had to go back to school…and the kids were thrilled to see him during that time.
    And he didn't die.
Also, this morning I woke up all 3 kids; I got them dressed; I fed them their breakfasts and packed their lunch boxes; I fixed the girls' hair; I made sure they had their backpacks ready for school….and all during that time Calvin was A) using the bathroom and B) watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates. NO LIE. It makes me livid how the mom gets stuck doing EvErYtHiNg and never so much as gets a “atta' girl!” for it all.
    *phew* Anyway…

BACK to the subject at hand! lol
Brooklyn looked so adorable in her white dress. What a special day for her!!
We used to live in an apartment complex that was referred to as “Little Provo” (lol) and we were the ONLY non-Mormon people living there. We learned a lot about the religion during those years and so it's fun to see it all through your photos.
I'm so glad for your sake that you didn't go crazy on a huge meal. Ugh, you wouldn't have been able to enjoy yourself for one second if you'd been worried about prepping, cooking, serving, and cleaning up all that stuff. I did that this year for Easter and it was so much work…and in the end I probably got the same reaction from everyone that I'd have gotten if I'd made frozen pizzas. Yahoo.
I feel like I had a lot more to say but my kids are bickering now and I need to intervene before someone starts to bleed.
    The joys just never end!!

  • I love that you are blogging so freely now!! How fun to know what you are REALLY thinking and/or feeling about certain moments! Makes your blog even better, if that's possible!!

I often feel like I can't leave the camera at home because I WANT the moments documented…but at the same time, I'm not really LIVING them. I'm always the one begging to take a picture and the one that is hardly ever in them. I wish I had my own personal photographer to follow us around and document our lives! lol! 😉
