Yesterday Allan’s parents came over so we could celebrate Brooklyn’s birthday!
I think every single birthday my kids have had has surprised me with how fast they grow up but there’s something about eight that sounds so big kid. Of course I know I’ll say that next year and I’ll probably say something similar in a month when it’s Ember’s birthday! lol
After getting home from church at 12:30pm she asked every ten minutes when grandma and grandpa were coming because she was so ansy to open her presents. Grandma and grandpa came at 3:30pm and as soon as they were in the door and I came out of my room (I’d been breastfeeding Ember) she asked if she could open her presents! lol
So we did that first thing!
She was opening her new shoes and socks. Allan picked out the shoes, Brooklyn told him they were her favorite shoes she’s ever had <3
She got her first set of scriptures and a case to carry them in.
We figured with her baptism being later this month it was time for her to have a set!
This is what she was looking forward to most of all. The girl is obsessed with stuffed animals and webkinz having a computer game to go along… heaven.
She played webkinz for an hour today and the rest of the day played with the stuffed jaguar. Good $2 purchase, Ariana! (lol, I bought clearanced after Christmas!)
Ember snacked on banana puffs.
After I snapped that of Ember I turned back around and Brooklyn was hugging her jaguar.
Onto more presents!
Some of her school clothes. (She already opened and wore some of the other clothes! ha)
Her first jewelry box. I’ve been wanting to get her one but didn’t know if she’d care about it. She’s never been into jewelry before. But she actually asked me for this one several months ago so of course I got it (at Goodwill for $2!)
She was happy when she realized I’d filled the drawers with her hair things and earrings and put her necklace in the door part.
Her new backpack was filled with her school supplies.
So at the end of opening all the presents she was really happy and we asked her if she had a great birthday and if she liked all her presents. She said yes and was smiling and said thank you for the great birthday.
Allan’s parents new that we had a surprised for her so they said something along the lines of, “But don’t you think you should have one more present? I think you need just one more present.”
Allan and I were smiling at Brooklyn and she looked at all of us a little confused and was thinking and I can’t remember if it was me or Allan but we told her. “you have one more present, your surprise present!”
I told her to close her eyes and she did. She was so excited!
Allan brought out a gift bag with a helmet and training wheels.
I love that she kept her eyes closed so long! lol
So I didn’t get pictures of the rest because I filmed it instead. I was going to share the video but I can’t figure out why it’s converting crappy. It’s super choppy after I convert it from MOV to AVI file and I don’t know why! No other windows or programs are running. Stupid.
So anyway, she pulls the helmet and the training wheels out of the bag and Allan’s parents are asking her, hmm what could you use those for? Your bigwheel? And Allan, who had left to go into the other room, wheeled the bike in as he said, “No they’re for your new BIKE!” And Brooklyn turned around and saw the bike and screamed and ran and hugged Allan. It’s a super cute video. I’ll work on converting it some more when I have time because I’d love to share it here.
I managed to get a shot of Brooklyn holding up eight fingers. (Allan and his dad were getting the training wheels on the bike in the background!)
After all that we started dinner. If only to have something healthy in our bellies in preparation for cake and ice cream!
I made chicken in the crockpot with rotel and we heated up tortillas. Add some shredded cheese and you have a super easy, yummy dinner! (Brooklyn requested it!)
Allan picked out the cake. (After an extremely stressful month for us we went with store bought, of course! lol)
Brooklyn adored her cake.
I can’t believe I caught these pictures at all, I was filming video and trying really hard to figure out my camera’s focusing system while snapping stills at the same time!
I’d say this is a happy girl!
Payson had gluten/dairy-free chocolate chip cookies and coconut ice cream! And he wore it well 😉
The only picture I have of me with the birthday girl! I’ll have to get another shot of us together soon.
As soon as we felt sick from cake we went outside to ride that new bike!
This is the only picture I took of Sierra the entire day! Poor girl, she was so jealous of Brooklyn all day!
Birthday girl on bike 🙂
Payson was out there riding his scooter and the bigwheels.
We’ve been thinking about getting her a bike for two years. Two years ago she wasn’t ready and last year we just didn’t because we got camping stuff instead, so this year it was all about the bike!
It was great timing because she did pretty well but I can tell last year would’ve been a major struggle. This year is perfect!
Payson smiled so big when he sped by me and I told him he drove as fast as red car! (Red car = Lightning McQueen, of course)
He was proud of his knee pads and helmet. I don’t know if it was moreso because it had red car on them or because Brooklyn had a new helmet as well.
Allan spent the rest of the time running back and forth with Brooklyn and giving her all kinds of helpful tips. It was really cute.
Before heading inside to escape the heat, Payson and I took a little walk in the desert by his request 🙂
Those are all the birthday pictures!
We met Brooklyn’s teacher tonight. She’s nice. Young but not too young, it’s her fourth year teaching. I’m really hoping this school year is a good experience for Brooklyn. It’s wait and see at this point!
I’m totally exhausted right now but there were a couple other things I needed to get done before bed. It’s already 10:30 and I have had such poor sleep this week thanks to teething baby. And I’m getting up early tomorrow to make sure to have plenty of time to make the morning of Brooklyn’s first day of school go really well!!
