Brooklyn’s 8th birthday is coming up really soon. There are a lot of things happening in the beginning of August, all through August really, so I thought it would be a good idea to take some pictures of her before all that craziness happens.
She loves to write. She writes little songs and stories and makes letters and cards and signs all day long. At any given time of day there are at least 20 papers on our table that have pictures and captions. I’m not sure how to store these or if I should or what. I sometimes go through and pick the best or funniest and put them in a binder and recycle the rest. It’s an area I have a hard time in because Brooklyn wants to save every little scrap of paper that has ever been under her crayon/pencil.
Brooklyn wants to be in charge. She doesn’t like being the daughter, she wants to be the mother. She bosses everyone around and gets upset anytime she’s told to do something she doesn’t want to. And if it isn’t having lots of fun it’s something she doesn’t want to do.
She’s starting to be a lot more responsible. If I very specifically tell her to be nice to Payson and be good while I’m in the other room working or *ahem* taking a thirty minute nap with Ember, she will act like a little mommy (not in a cutesy way, in a very real way) and take care of them while I’m gone.
She really loves playing with toys. All of my kids love toys, all toys. She has never been given a toy which she didn’t love dearly. From the cheapy McDonald’s happy meal toys to a more expensive dollhouse to the tiny 25 cent toys from the dentist’s office, she loves them all!
She asks me about male singers when we’re in the car and if they’re single or married and how old they are. She gets disappointed when they’re all too old for her because she really wants to marry someone who is a great singer. lol
She has an amazing memory. She gets it from her dad because mine is terrible. She remembers things that happened 5 years ago and I can’t believe it!
Her new favorite thing is when I let her answer the phone.
She really hates it when I do her hair. She doesn’t care about how she looks at all. She’ll leave the house in pajamas with crazy tangled hair and is totally fine like that. I was that way as a child so I get it! lol
She is a total daddy’s girl. She likes daddy way more than mommy.
She’s with me and I just asked her to tell my about herself so here is what she has to say:
My favorite TV show is Scooby Doo.
My favorite grown up TV show is Man Vs. Wild. I like Bear Grylls.
My favorite Disney movie is Tangled.
My favorite toy is Webkinz.
My favorite holiday is when I get to have a birthday and I turn a lot of different ages.
My favorite thing to do with mom is go to the movies. (Did I mention the girl likes watching TV and movies. Clearly. haha!) <—She laughed when I wrote that.
My favorite thing to do with dad is to go fishing and camp!
My favorite book is Junie B. Jones first grader.
My favorite thing to do with Ember is play with her.
My favorite thing to do with Sierra is to play with her, too.
And also I like to color with Payson. What I like to do with grandma and grandpa is to talk to them and play with them and read books with them. MY favorite thing to do outside is to go swimming. Can we do that soon? (yes) I mean today. (sure) Sure? When? (today) Really? But what time? Mom that’s not what I wanted! (you don’t want to write that?) Why did you write that? (Because it’s…) Because that’s not what I wanted you to write!
(We talk about swimming and I ask her if there’s anything else she wants to say)
I love swimming. So much that I cry and I love swimming because I’m learning how from my swimming lessons. I already knew how to do the crab walk. (She shows me the crab walk) That’s the crab walk and I was really good at it! (Ember is on my lap and Brooklyn does the crab walk again and Ember laughs)
And now they’re being silly together and I should probably end this! haha
Brooklyn says: “You’re ending it? Alright then I’m going to my cereal because I’m starving now!”
My goodness I love this girl!
