Book Obsession

I have this notebook. It’s full of pages and pages of books I want to check out from the library.
Sometimes we manage to make it to the library before it closes. Those are happy days.

After playing with new friends for the first hour of our trip the girls spot the computers and spend the remaining time glued to the screen in computer game bliss.

I’m a few feet away in the under-5 section reading books to my toddler boy.

And nursing the baby girl.

We make our way to our car with books overflowing our bags and toppling off the seat of the stroller.
The books are all read within two days. And re-read. And re-read. Read so many times over they’re mostly memorized.

And when mommy’s voice gets tired after the 50th reading, Brooklyn takes over.

The kids aren’t the only ones floating in a book heaven. I’ve put very happy dents in several of these books already.

Completely unrelated… we’d just read most of the books from the library trip that day and I was preparing dinner. Payson had his third banana of the day while waiting for his beef roast.

  • Blogger is really doing some goofy things lately! 🙂

What are your sources for books to check out? I've run across a few sites but am always looking for more ideas!

  • We LOVE LOVE LOVE Mo Willems books in this house! I think Abby wrote to B about that? There's a new one called Amanda and her Alligator. Elephant and Piggie are our *favorite* though. Abby got Falling Up for a birthday gift and I was so glad to see that again, I read it as a kid! And The Giving Tree is so great, we are on our second copy in this house. We are totally spoiled as we live across the street from our library.

  • Sarah, I just found this site:
    http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/alsc/awardsgrants/notalists/ncb/index.cfm

    today and am loving it.

Besides that I get book lists off of homeschooling blogs I follow (way too many to list) and also from homeschool companies which are literature centered like Sonlight, Five in a Row, Beautiful Feet… um, that's all I can think of right now.

I'll also randomly google things like:
“great picture books for three year olds”
    or
    “classics for first grade/second grade”
    or
“favorite picture books for young kids”
    or
“chapter books for six year olds”

Lots of stuff like that. I also jot down titles whenever ANYONE mentions a book they like. Sometimes I don't like the book but most times I do.
