Allan had Friday off work. Usually he works Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve so it was a treat to have that extra day with him. He has New Year’s Eve off this year, too!
On the 23rd we went to Bass Pro Shops to see Santa like we do every year. We got in line and an employee (dressed like an elf, of course) came up and told us only people with tickets could see Santa that evening. We were pretty darned bummed because Bass Pro Shops is a far drive from our house!!
We decided to go home and have hot chocolate with the girls after putting the little kids to bed. Payson can’t have hot chocolate because of allergies.
We stopped at WalMart on the way home so I could buy wrapping paper. Ember was asleep so I went in with only Payson.
He was in a really good mood in the store. Too bad I can’t say the same for poor Ember in the car with Allan. She was really hungry and woke up right after I left. Allan ended up bouncing her the whole time I was in the store. Which was a looong time because WalMart on December 23rd was jam packed!
Christmas Eve day was a wonderful day. I didn’t take any pictures, though! I’m notoriously bad at taking pictures during holidays! We did crafts and baking that day. I cleaned a lot, too. And in the evening we went on a hike, which is where we took that picture in the post below.
After the kids were in bed we got everything ready for Christmas. We were up until 2am, which was brutal the next day! lol
I forgot to take a picture of the presents under the tree, the only thing I regret not having my camera out for 🙁
In fact, I didn’t pick up my camera until all the presents were opened. I don’t regret that, though, because I had such a great time sitting right in the middle of it all and just watching the happiness 🙂
This year Allan picked out all the gifts for the kids except for their gift from Santa and their stocking stuffers! We have been trying to save money and also start teaching the kids to value possessions more so this year we focused on getting the kids stuff they needed for fun family outings instead of getting them boatloads of toys. Snow wear and camping gear were the two big things we looked for.
The kids were totally thrilled 🙂
I bought Payson a potty chair and some undies. I’m not planning on potty training him anytime soon, but sometime in the next year it should happen.
Brooklyn’s gift from Santa was webkinz. Her aunt Mary got her a webkinz (and Sierra, too) when she sent a baby gift for Ember when she was born. Brooklyn’s been obsessed with them and she was over the moon happy Christmas morning when she opened these. She was so excited to have friends for her cat.
Sierra wore her new headband and ring pop and looked so stylish amongst her loot.
Payson was happy to be a part of everything. Having allergies and being the youngest I can tell he feels left out sometimes. Just at mealtimes, having different foods, it really affects him being different, so I try REALLY hard to make everything even with the kids and to make him feel like he’s as much a part of everything as they are!
After opening presents and playing with everything for quite a while we had a late breakfast. And oh what a breakfast it was. Me and Allan worked together to make homemade hashbrowns, eggs, sausage and orange slices. Allan makes the best hashbrowns so I was in heaven!
The girls spent Payson and Ember’s naps working on crafts.
While Allan put my new Christmas gift to work. He got me an upholstery cleaner because I’ve been wanting one for two years!! Having four kids is hard on couches but having a kid with reflux was even worse than normal wear. Payson spit up around ten times a day when he was a newborn and it did a number on my poor, poor couch. Add the fact that the boy manages to get into a bazillion messy things every month and loves to mess up the couch (no really, he loves to use it as a napkin!!) and you have a disgusting piece of furniture:
But now it looks nice again! Which makes me happy 🙂
The two younger kids woke up from their naps and we decided to go on another hike since we didn’t get much time there the day before. We drove back to Picketpost mountain. Payson whined the whole way 😛
Here’s another shot I liked of the family.
The day after Christmas I let the kids watch Christmas movies while I cleaned up. I also did about 7 loads of laundry!
And snapped a picture when the kids were in their church clothes. Though I hadn’t done their hair yet :-S
Ember looked so sweet in her hand-me-down Christmas dress 🙂
I really love hand-me-downs!
We all went outside to play because the weather was so nice.
Ember was out there, too. She is such a sweet baby and smiled and laughed at me but she was actually pretty sleepy and hungry. She spent most of the time nursing.
I love these two; I really love these two together.
We eventually went inside to eat dinner.
We had BBQ steak and chicken along with tater tots and veggies and ranch. Tots are a big hit for the kids lately.
Ember slept for a bit longer.
I let Allan sleep in Sunday so he let me sleep in today. Yep, he’s off again!! This is an amazing treat for me. He pretty much never takes time off work!
I woke up and fed Ember. Allan headed outside with the older girls to do some work in the yard and to take the sunscreens off the windows since we don’t need them in winter.
The girls did such a great job helping outside that they took a break to come in and get ring pops.
And then it was back outside to play!
I’ve been blogging while they’re out there. Allan’s asked me about a hundred times to come out and be with them and help him. Usually I run right on out when he asks, the weather is glorious. But I just wasn’t in the mood this morning after an exhausting weekend. Lovely, fun, happy weekend, but a LOOOOOOT of work, too!!
As I’m typing he asked me another two times to come out!
I hear the two little kids waking up so I’m going to go get them dressed and head on out now!
