Never Lasts Long

Ember isn’t a very good sleeper. At night she will only sleep if I nurse her to sleep and then hold her. She wakes up the second I put her down. I really don’t know what to do about that so I just end up holding her all night. I doze on and off while sitting up.

I’m so tired!

She does sleep really well in her bed from 6:30am to 9:30am. Which is, unfortunately, not a period of time I can sleep since my other kids are up.

Today I finally got her to sleep by herself on my bed. It only lasted twenty minutes but hoooooly crap did I do A LOT in those twenty minutes!! I vaccuumed, did a load of laundry, did the dishes and made the older kids lunch. I felt like I’d achieved so much! lol.
I can’t believe how much I used to do before I had Ember! I never realized it, though. I always had a running list in my mind of all the things to get done, I never stopped to notice all the things I was getting done.

The kids get to watch an hour or two of TV every day this week. They LOVE it.

The nap ended way too soon 🙁
And after a ten minute nap just now she’s up again.

  • You probably don't want to hear this, but Ember is getting so big already! In that last collage of photos, especially, she looks so alert and big. It all goes by way too fast, doesn't it? *sniff sniff*
All of my kids have slept exactly the way you described Ember's sleeping habits…for the first few weeks, they would only sleep if they were being held or if they were right next to us in bed (which always made me nervous, so we spent a lot of nights in the recliner with a baby on our chests!). I miss those nights, even if they were sleep-deprived.

  • Ariana, could you try wrapping one of your shirts about a hot water bottle (not ridiculously hot obviously) and settling her down with that? It would be warm and smell like mom – maybe enough to fool her into sleeping longer?
