The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Today we did some activities to go along with the book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. My girls love Eric Carle books (does any child dislike them, really?) so I’ve been meaning to do this for a while.

First thing we did was play with some flannel board stuffed pieces while reading the book.

My mother in law (who you all know I LOVE) brought these pieces for the girls one day recently. My mother in law is a first grade teacher and always has books, games, ideas and tips for me and the kids. We’re really blessed to live by her πŸ™‚

Next we made some caterpillars out of toilet paper rolls.

Then the girls colored some coloring pages I found free online.
They loved this first set: Hungry Caterpillar color pages

They liked this coloring page, as well: Butterfly Life Cycle coloring page

I wrote the days of the week on index cards and then had Brooklyn put them in the right order.

I also took a couple videos.
Sierra reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar while Brooklyn puts stuffed pieces on the flannel board.
Then Brooklyn reads while Sierra does the pieces.
We did a couple math and reading activities as well but I didn’t take pictures of those. Maybe we’ll do them again tomorrow and I’ll photograph it.

On a side note: Sarah, I added the recipes to the post below. I couldn’t really respond on your blog since it’s private πŸ™‚
